Welcome
Welcome to Parrot’s class page, let me introduce you to our staff… I am Laura the Class Teacher, Jaimi is our TA3 and we have our teaching assistants Michelle and Ty. The pupils in Parrot class are: Ahmed, Amelia, Darnell, Maggie, Mario, Ronnie, Shakeel, Tyler and Yusuf.
During Spring term 2, the pupils in year three will be experiencing a day at the Farm. This trip is linked to this half terms topic and we will be paying special attention to the new life spring has welcomed. We will also be visiting West site to see our buddy class.
Topic
This half term, our topic is ‘The Cycles of Life’, which focuses on the subjects of Science and PSHE. During topic lessons, the pupils will experience the life cycle of a butterfly, other animals and plants.
Literacy
This half term, Parrot class will be reading the story ‘Handa’s Surprise’ by Eileen Browne.
Amazon description: In this picture book classic, a delightful surprise colourfully unfolds when a little girl called Handa puts seven delicious fruits in a basket to take to her friend.

Phonics
In phonics, the pupils will be working in different ability groups. The pupils are set into ability groups to work on pre-phonics, phase 1 or 2 of RWI and identifying sounds within the environment. There are many lovely phonics songs online, which the pupils can watch with parents at home.
In write-dance sessions, the pupils will develop their fine motor skills by making colourful marks and drawing pictures.
During speaking and listening sessions, the pupils will be working on their pronunciation and the different sounds that they can create.
Maths
In maths we will be covering each strand weekly- Number, Geometry and Measure. They will still be practicing their understanding of money, by using one lesson a week to visit Asda. Further to this we will be linking maths into attention skills sessions to extend their practice of this lesson.
ICT
This half-terms skills sessions will support the pupils to understand the basics of coding and programming. become a programmer by inputting a code (set of instructions) to a floor turtle to make it move or by pressing arrows on a screen to make an object move. They will also follow simple codes themselves to perform an action or sequence of actions.

Charity Day - Children in Need
Welcome to Parrot’s class page, let me introduce you to our staff… I am Laura the Class Teacher, Jaimi is our TA3 and we have our teaching assistants Michelle and Becky. The pupils in Parrot class are: Ahmed, Amelia, Darnell, Maggie, Mario, Tyler, Shakeel and Yusuf.
During Autumn Term 2, Parrot class will be joining the school festivities and celebrating the fun that takes place nationally at this time of the year. this will include; fundraising for Children in Need, setting up our own stall at our annual winter wonderland and taking part in a trip to visit to santa.
Topic
This half term, our topic is ‘over the rainbow’, which focuses on the subjects of art and science. During topic lessons the pupils will be experiencing and engaging in different colour based activities. the expectations for Parrot class will be able to name/recognise some or all of the 7 colours; participate in colour mixing activities and contribute to a colourful art display in class.
Literacy
This half term we will be reading ‘the gingerbread man’, which is a traditional tale. One lesson per week will have a colourful semantics task, where the pupils will be developing their understanding of who and what doing questions or matching the main characters to toys or pictures.
In write dance sessions, the pupils will develop their fine motor skills by making colourful marks to create a rainbow themed picture or link their picture to our story.

Maths
In maths we will be covering each strand weekly- Number, Geometry and Measure. We will start with number, moving onto measure. The pupils have been looking at their own height and using the language tall or short. This half term we will concentrate on measuring temperature starting with understanding the difference between hot and cold.
ICT
This half-term, the pupils will be story making. This will link to the story we are covering in English ‘The Gingerbread man’. They will use powerpoint to drag and drop characters into their own slide show. When possible vocabulary will be added (supported by an adult) to create narrative.

Autumn 1
Fun Factory Trip
All the pupils had a wonderful time and used lots of energy; playing, climbing and jumping.

During Autumn Term 1, Parrot class are looking forward to weekly community learning in Asda. This will support PSHE, Maths and creating links in the community.
Topic
Get ready, Stay safe, Be Healthy
This half term, our topic is ‘Get Ready, Stay Safe, Be Healthy’, which focuses on the subject of PE and PSHE. During topic lessons, the pupils will be looking at parts of the body, different sports and activities, in order to help us to become fit and healthy. This will follow on to hygiene and personal safety focus finishing off this half term with a week centred on healthy eating and what athletes like to eat. During this week we will use our weekly shop in Asda to look at the different healthy foods on offer. The other visit the pupils can take part in this half term will include a trip to an activity centre to support their sporting understanding.
Literacy
This half term we will be reading ‘Spot Goes to the Farm’ by Eric Hill. This story is fun and enjoyable. The pupils will be learning about the characters/animals within the story and will support the pupils pre phonics learning- using the animals’ sounds to identify the correct animals.
Some lessons may have a colourful semantics task, where some pupils will be developing their understanding of who questions or matching the main characters to toys or pictures.
In write dance sessions, the pupils will develop their fine motor skills by making colourful marks in a sporting theme.

This half-term pupil will be mark making in skills sessions. This will support their creativity and help them to develop motor skills, whilst using technology. We will also link some computing sessions to our topic ‘Get Ready, Stay Safe, Be Healthy’.
