Summer 2

I cannot believe this is the last half term it has literally flown by! Purple class have an amazing topic for this term which is called Treasure Island.  It is lots of fun dressing up as pirates and finding out all about pirates and the things they get up to.  By the time you read this purple and blue class will have already had their trip to Leighton Buzzard splash park to go and look for treasure in the sand.  Please look at the website to see some photos from our trip.  We will have another trip later in the year to Batford park to go on the pretend pirate ship. 

Our story this term is an Oxford Reading Tree book called Pirate Adventure about the characters from ORT who are mainly Biff, Chip, Wilf and Wilma finding a key that takes them to a pirate island for a pirate party.

In science we will continue the pirate theme and look at floating and sinking, spending lots of time exploring and experimenting with water, so let's hope the sun continues to shine.

We will of course continue to do all the many other activities in maths, ICT, PSHE and expressive arts.

Summer 1

Welcome back to hopefully a sunny  Summer term.  Purple class has now started swimming each week which is lots of fun though everyone is tired out in the afternoon!

Our topic this term is called The Hungry Caterpillar and is based on the story of the same name by Eric Carle.  We are learning about the caterpillar life cycle and we are getting some live eggs to have at school, to hopefully observe them change from egg to caterpillar to cocoon to butterfly.  As part of our topic we are visiting Whipsnade zoo to go to the butterfly house and look at all the other animals.

In science we are learning about minibeasts and going outside to find them.

We will continue working hard with the basic skills of reading, writing and speaking and listening.  In maths we will be exploring shape, positional language, capacity and reinforcing our skills at counting, ordering and identifying numbers.

Looking forward to a short but very busy term.

Spring 2

We are now halfway through the year, which is going so quickly. 
 

This term our topic is called Kings, Queens and all things Royal.  We will be looking at castles and s making our own castle that we can then put our own king and queen in.  We will build castles with bricks and sand. We will be making crowns and royal jewellery and dressing up as kings and queens.  We will also visit a pretend fort and go to the museum to look at royal transport.
 

Our story in literacy is called 'From Head to Toe' by Eric Carle and is about us moving like the different animals in the story.
 

In science we are exploring physical processes such as light, looking at torches and shadows and sound, making and identifying different musical instruments.  We will also use large magnets to find out what they attract.
 

In maths we will continue our work with numbers, shape, measure and size.
 

In PSHE we are carrying on our work from last term, which was joining up with some children from Pearl class to learn skills of turn taking and sharing.
 

At the end of the term we will be having a special Easter bonnet competition which the parents will be invited to ( more details later)

Spring 1

Welcome back to what is a very short half term.  Our topic is called 'Come Dine with Me' and is to do with exploring different eating places and different food they serve.  This week we are looking at fish and chips shops, we will be exploring Chinese, Indian, Italian and American restaurants.  We hope to visit as many of them as possible and will be making different food and looking at how we behave and eat in cafes. 

Our literacy book is called The Tiger Who Came to Tea and is about a tiger who unexpectedly calls at a house and eats all the food. Then drinks all the drink in the house so that the family have to go out to a cafe for a meal.

In Science we are exploring materials and their properties, having fun ripping, screwing up and experimenting with different types of paper, also looking at the properties of wet and dry sand.

In PSHE we are learning how to interact and play appropriately with our 'friends' and we have some children from Pearl and Amber class coming to play with us.

We will be continuing our work on maths and relating it to our topic whenever possible so we may spend our own money in the cafe to pay for our food.
